Our volunteer team at Chaddesley Woods are looking for volunteers to help them manage this national nature reserve.

Purpose of Role

Our practical conservation volunteers are an essential part of the team working on nature reserves across the county. Volunteers help with practical conservation management to maintain the sites special features for now and for the future.

Type of work

Chaddesley Woods is ancient woodland and has many indicator species such as yellow archangel, herb Paris and dog’s mercury and trees like small-leaved lime and wild service trees. Also at the reserve is Worcestershire’s speciality, the land caddis, which is nationally rare. Tasks include coppicing and scrub clearance to maintain glades and open areas for invertebrate and bird communities.

Basic information

  • Interest and enthusiasm for nature and wildlife conservation
  • Willingness to work outside in all weathers
  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team
  • Basic use of hand tools; training will be given
  • Willingness to be involved in a number of tasks as directed
  • Suitable for everyone with a basic level of fitness

Time/days

Work parties take place every Thursday of the month at 9am. Sep-Mar only.
