WeeklyPurpose of role
To assist the reserves team and other volunteers in preserving and conserving a range of environments across our nature reserves.
Type of work
Depending on the season and the location, tasks include repairing and installing fencing, hanging gates, scrub clearance, tree coppicing and pollarding, hay making and meadow regeneration, tree planting and pond/stream clearance.
Skills
Our volunteer work parties are set up to be suitable for most ages and level of experience. Some things to consider...
- Interest and enthusiasm for wildlife and the great outdoors
- Willingness to work in all weathers
- Able to work in a team and on your own
- Willingness to be involved in a variety of tasks as directed
Time/days per week
Work parties run on Tuesdays and Thursdays setting off from Lower Smite Farm at 9:15am and returning by 4pm. Parking is available at Smite.
Benefits
As a practical volunteer you get to see and get involved with a number of nature reserves across the county - including heathland, wetlands, woodlands and grassland. At each reserve there is a wide range of insects, mammals, plants, birds and butterflies. There's a chance to learn new skills (training is available) as well as being great for health and wellbeing.
