Wilder Worcester

Wilder Worcester was a community focused project that supported local people to connect more with and take action for wildlife. It laid the foundations for our Wilder Worcestershire: Neighbourhoods Nurturing Nature project, which began in June 2024, working with communities along the rivers Salwarpe and Severn from Droitwich Spa, through Worcester to Kempsey.

We want to put nature back into everyone’s lives and worked alongside communities in Worcester to help nature’s recovery by creating, protecting and enhancing more areas for wildlife across the city.

Across Worcester we :

  • Worked with landowners and community groups to identify opportunities to help nature and people
  • Helped communities to make space for nature by creating habitats such as wildflower patches and ponds
  • Ran workshops, walks, and talks in neighbourhoods
  • Built better connections to nature
  • Celebrated and shared all the hard work that is being done in Worcester through our interactive map to ensure that everyone knows they are part of a wider team helping wildlife

This project is part of our Wilder Worcestershire project to help secure nature's recovery right across the county. The project is funded by The Government's Green Recovery Challenge Fund, which was developed by Defra and its Arm's-Length Bodies.  The fund is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with Natural England, the Environment Agency and Forestry Commission.
