This is an exciting opportunity to gain the skills and experience needed to start a career in UK wildlife conservation.

As part of a team of trainees you will assist in nature reserve management across a variety of habitats including heathlands, woodlands and wetlands. The role will involve habitat management using a variety of tools, installing and repairing reserve infrastructure such as boardwalks and bird hides and supervising volunteers in a variety of tasks.

A structured training programme is offered with the opportunity to tailor training towards individual aims. Trainees will gain nationally-recognised qualifications including first aid, chainsaw and brush-cutter operation and maintenance with the opportunity to train for other certifications in related countryside management skills.

We are currently looking for five 12-month part-time placements to run from April 2025 to March 2026. The volunteer positions are for three days per week, 9pm-5pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The roles are based at Lower Smite Farm, between Worcestershire and Droitwich Spa but the team travels out to nature reserves across the county.

This is a rolling programme and we will be regularly recruiting for trainees to start in April each year.

Worcestershire Wildlife Trust has been offering opportunities for people to gain their first step on the conservation career ladder for almost 30 years. Our most recent training programme has been running since 2019. You can read about what our trainees get up to in the conservation trainees blog.

Closing date: midnight on Sunday 2nd February
Interviews: either Thursday 27th or Friday 28th February
